No foreign language film has ever scored this many Academy Award nominations as Emilia Pérez just did, with 13. Wicked and The Brutalist followed with 10 apiece.
These films will compete for the grand prize of Best Picture at the Oscars on March 2, along with Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys and The Substance.
As always on Oscar nomination day, there is talk of who didn’t get nominated. That list for Best Actress snubs includes Pamela Anderson, Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.
For Best Actor, the surprise nod went to Sebastian Stan for his role as a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice and not for his other leading role in A Different Man.
Many thought Daniel Craig would score a slot in that category for Queer, directed by Luca Guadagnino, whose other film, Challengers, walked away empty-handed. It was predicted that its pounding score, by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, would receive recognition from the Academy.
