It was Saturday night at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles so it was only appropriate that Saturday Night Live walked away with the most awards at the 12th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards, known as the MUAHs.

Yet understandably, no one from the legendary NBC sketch comedy show was on hand to pick up their four statuettes as they were busy preparing for the next night’s huge 50th anniversary celebration at Studio 8H in New York.

Dancing with the Stars stars and spouses Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson hosted the ceremony in a packed ballroom filled with very well-coiffed and made-up guests, and even treated them to a dance number.

The hit film Wicked took two of the night’s biggest prizes – for Best Period and/or Character Make-Up and Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling in a Feature Length Motion Picture.

The Substance was awarded the guild’s other two top prizes for feature film, Best Contemporary Make-Up and Best Special Make-Up Effects.

There were other double winners. The Jennifer Hudson Show took the trophies for Best Makeup and Best hairstyling in Daytime TV — and Secret – Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: Lifesaver for Best Hairstyling and Best Makeup in Commercials and Music Videos.

In its 23 categories, the Muahs presented a new award for Broadway and International Live Theater Production: Make-Up and Hair Styling, which was won by The Great Gatsby.

Actress Allison Janney was presented with the 2025 Distinguished Artisan Award, which was presented by her costar on The West Wing, Dule Hill.
