‘The Brutalist,’ ‘Emilia Pérez,’ ‘Shogun’ and ‘Baby Reindeer’ Score Big at the Golden Globes

The rehabilitation of the Golden Globes continued in pretty good form after last year’s disastrous hosting job by Jo Koy– and previously the group’s exposed racism and corruption– with host Nikki Glaser bringing some comedic sparkle to the CBS and Paramount+ telecast.

Fresh off her success at the Tom Brady roast, Glazer mildly roasted some of the A-list attendees in her monologue. Some of them seemed a bit stunned, like Stanley Tucci when she mentioned his freak-offs would feature olive oil and not baby oil.

Others, like Timothée Chalamet, who got a lion’s share of attention, went along for the laughs—about his moustache, and his last name, including a variation shouted out by Adam Sandler.

But it was the night’s winners who set the tone. Demi Moore and Adrien Brody spoke movingly of their ups and downs in Hollywood, and how they were lifted up by their respective projects, The Substance and The Brutalist.

It took the top prize of best film drama and best director for Brady Corbet.

Emilia Pérez  was also a big winner, beginning with Zoe Saldana’s tearful acceptance speech for best supporting actress and book-ended by the cast’s taking the stage as the film won best comedy or musical.
