“Elvis” was king at the 10th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild awards held Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The Baz Lurhmann film starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks scored trophies for best period and/or character make-up and period and/or character hair styling.
“The Whale,” starring Brendan Fraser, won for best specialmake-up effects. Makeup artists for “Everything Everywhere All At Once” took home the MUAH award for best contemporary make up, while the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” team won for best contemporary hair.
On the TV side, Hulu’s “Pam and Tommy,” “American Horror Story: Dollhouse” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special” all took home trophies from the guild.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star Angela Bassett was honored with the Distinguished Artisan Award.
“Before anything is shot, edited or shown on the screen, there’s a team made up of all of you who work long and hard – I see it – to help us bring to life the characters on screen,” the Oscar nominee told the crowd. “You are just as responsible as I am for who the character is, how the world perceives and receives them and for how that character is remembered.”
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Elvis” and “The Whale” are now vying for Oscar frontrunner status in the Make-up and Hair Styling category, along with “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “The Batman.”
