It’s about damn time a woman was named as host of a major awards show. So hats off to Chelsea Handler, the just-announced emcee of next year’s Critics Choice Awards. 15.
Handler takes the reins from Taye Diggs, who hosted the show for four consecutive years, including early this year with Nicole Byer.
The 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards honors the best in television and film during a three-hour broadcast set to air on The CW Sunday January 15, 2023 at 7 p.m. ET, live (for the Eastern and Central time zones, delayed in the west) from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
Handler is no stranger to running a show, having fronted “Chelsea Lately” on E! for seven years. She also starred in a documentary series for Netflix, “Chelsea Does.”
“We all know and love her work as a standup comedian, a best-selling author, a podcast host, and actress – and now as host of the Critics Choice Awards,” says Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin. “I know this will be the best year yet and can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store.”
Prior to that, the CCA will be busy with four other awards presentations. Set for November 4 is the first-ever Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema & Television.
November 13 sees two separate kudofests, the 7th annual Documentary Awards held at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and the 2nd annual Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television, scheduled for the Fairmont Century Plaza.
The 5th annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television is also slated at the Los Angeles hotel on December 5.
