There may be a new front runner for the Academy Awards after the Producers Guild honored “CODA” Saturday night with its top prize.

The PGA uses the same preferential ranking system in voting for its 10 best picture nominees as do Academy voters – and that could mean presumed frontrunner “The Power of the Dog” has some tough competition.

Both films have been training off the leaderboard in the most recent precursor awards with Netflix’s “Power” taking the BAFTA and Critics Choice, while Apple TV+’s “CODA” took the SAG Award.

Two more things each film has in common: they were both written and directed by a woman, Jane Campion and Siân Heder, respectively, and both were distributed by streamers.

Disney’s animated feature “Encanto” and Questlove’s “Summer of Soul” documentary where the other big film winners at the PGA Awards, both of which are expected to repeat in their respective categories at next weekend’s Oscars.

The cast of HBO’s “Succession”

On the TV side, HBO scored wins with “Succession” and “Mare of Easttown” taking the trophies for Drama Series and Limited Series.

The PGA is made up of about 7,000 members who produce film, television and digital media, with many of its members also part of the Academy’s voting ranks.
