Last year it was held at the ritzy Beverly Hilton and televised on VH1 but this year the Second Annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards were virtual.

Hosted by OG Real Housewife NeNe Leakes from—where else—Atlanta, trophies were handed out and honored the best nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming presented on broadcast, cable and streaming platforms in a number of categories.

Due to the pandemic circumstances, winners were notified in advance and were able to pre-record their acceptance speeches for the ceremony, presented by Critics Choice and nonfiction producers organization NPACT.

From its 31 nominations, Netflix scored eight wins including to each for “Queer Eye” and “Cheer.”

To no one’s surprise, ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” the ten-part docuseries on basketball legend Michael Jordan won outstanding sports show. Its director Jason Hehir accepted the award, the first of undoubtedly a number of trophies that will line his mantel.

The awards ceremony, which ran a tight 27 minutes, can be viewed on YouTube.
