Even as summer is coming to a close and the weather cools off a bit, The Skin Saint owner Holly Cutler says to always wear an SPF 30 protect your facial skin. She also has other recommendations.
“Fall is the time to get back on medical-grade, stronger ingredients to clean up our lackluster summer skin. In the hot months, our skin may get clogged, our cell turnover may slow, and our skin can appear duller. Our capillaries and redness may appear worse, and fine lines from squinting or smiling in the summer fun, may get us down. This is the time to step up our glow glam and give our skin a post summer boot camp,” says Cutler, whose company makes a number of skincare product lines for various skin types. She also runs a medspa in Detroit.
Cutler also says the change in seasons means moving to a more emollient moisturizer as humidity drops in the winter and skin tends to dry out. She also recommends a lightener to even out any sun damage.
“Toss your scrub and rev up your acids and retinoids (if not sensitive) to weekly peels, daily low-level wipes, or 2-3x a week nightly serum, depending on your needs. Cell turnover is essential for healthier, younger, more radiant looking skin,” Cutler says. “Start incorporating weekly masks at home that hydrate, revitalize, cleanse and invigorate skin in between your facials or as part of your regular routine.” She says those with very sensitive skin should use enzymes and not retinoids.
Product advice: Betazyme Resurfacing Cleanser that helps clear out clogged pores making for a brighter, clearer complexion. Glycolic Micro Peel Pads helps smooth and firm the skin while improving the appearance of pores.
Cutler provides some other basic tips. She says always apply your serums on clean, dry skin and let them dry for applying your next serum or moisturizer. Great advise for those this in a hurry – usually to get to bed when we have a more extensive skincare routine – who often don’t wait in between.
Some of the company’s other best-sellers are its Overnight Facial Complex, Needle-Free Filler and Bioidentical Serum.
