LACMA's Purple Rain RoomGuests lucky enough to have tickets today to the sold-out and soon-closing Rain Room at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art received a special treat today.

The room, normally bathed in white light, used purple in order to honor the memory of the iconic recording artist Prince, whose death yesterday shocked the world. The effect resulted in a shower of purple rain in the immersive environment of perpetually falling water.

“In memory of Prince, Random International and LACMA felt this gesture was a fitting tribute to celebrate the life and work of a groundbreaking artist,” said a LACMA spokesperson in a statement.

LACMA said the purple rain will last through closing today. The popular exhibit, which ends its run on Sunday, will reopen again in on May 19 for a limited time.
