ELLE Celebrates Women Musicians with Private Concert Headlined by Sarah McLachlan
Kicking off with beats from DJ Rumer Willis, music filled the house at Avalon Hollywood for the 5th annual ELLE Women in Music concert Tuesday night to celebrate the mag’s new issue – with Miley Cyrus on the cover–lauding femme musicians.
Headliner Sarah McLachlan had a packed house singing along on some of her greatest hits including “Adia” and “Angel” as she began her set behind a grand piano before moving to center stage with a guitar for some well-received tracks off her new album, “Shine On,” being released May 6. McLachlan, who created the femme festival Lilith Fair, will do a 30-city tour beginning in June in Seattle to support the new record.
Rap’s fiercest new voice Angel Haze and Australian indie-pop-musician Betty Who also performed at the event, hosted by editor in chief Robbie Myers and presented by CUSP Neiman Marcus, which set up a makeup bar with products from Dior.
With headliners from every genre, this year’s ELLE Women in Music Issue features a range of female artists from Cyrus to Lily Allen, Neneh Cherry, the band Warpaint, Arianna Grande, Banks, and Cher.
Huge bouquets of red roses decorated the main room at the Avalon as guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in between sets and a GIF photo booth with music-inspired props.
Guests included Stacy Keibler, Sophia Bush, Kat Graham, Kevin McHale, Scout Willis, Emma Bell, Willa Holland, Aly Michalka, AJ Michalka, Holland Roden, Briana Evigan, actress and musician Zendaya, musical comedy duo Garfunkel + Oates (Riki Lindhome & Kate Micucci), Pia Toscano from “American Idol”, Aimee Garcia and Shantel VanStanten.
